Job Characteristics: Review complicated technical documents to determine potential tax deficiencies and disallow or assess tax, penalties and interest where appropriate. Conduct simple to moderately complex office audits. Process completed audits by updating or abating interest. Review paper and electronic audit reports. Adjust reports for payments received. Create legal audit notice letters and mail audit reports within deadlines. Contact taxpayers to schedule meetings and resolve audit issues. Prepare written memorandums, taxpayer inquiry letters, work papers and other correspondence. Enter and review information. Manipulate and retrieve data to generate reports using computer software applications and tax systems. Update account history, prepare assessment forms and maintain audit files. Provide phone support.
